We (really just me) are not ready for potty training, but we went ahead and bought a potty for CeCe. We kept it in the box for the longest time before we opened it. I just sat it in the living room to see how she would react to it. It was never anything I was ready to push, because like I said, I am not really ready for all of this.
It is a huge transition and although it would be nice to save on buying diapers, I feel like they are so much easier. I don't look forward to the days when we have to make sure she goes potty every 30 minutes and/or before we have to leave, when she decides that she has to potty when we're in the car and Vivi is asleep, when we're in a store and we have to experience a public restroom for the first time, and so on.
All of that said, I've never kept CeCe from trying it when she wants to and I really do plan on going through the whole training thing this summer when I have an extended period of time to work on it with her. She's sat on it many of times without doing anything. And every time, we go through the entire motion of wiping, flushing (clean) toilet paper, and praising her (for not doing anything).
On May 1, she said she wanted to go potty and I told her I would give her a piece of candy if she went pee pee. Sure enough, she sat down and went pee pee. I was a little shocked and then got very happy. I even teared up, I was so proud of her. She got her candy and acted like it was no big deal.
Since then, I have continued to not push it. Yesterday, I was cleaning and hanging some clothes up in her room. She told me she wanted to go pee pee and so I just told her ok and went on with what I was doing. She picked up her potty and brought it her room where I was, sat down and went poo poo. Again, I was completely shocked and just began to praise her. We took it in the bathroom, dumped it, washed hands, and then I gave her a piece of candy. We went back in the room, continued cleaning, and she sat down again and went pee pee. I could not believe it. I thought, wow, maybe she's really ready to get this going. After we cleaned everything up, I asked her if she was ready to wear big girl panties or if she still liked wearing her diapers. She told me she wanted to wear her panties.
This was all just before nap time so I put her in her diaper and went on with the rest of the day like normal. Today, I slept in and Josh said she went pee pee and poo poo again today. This afternoon, I put her in panties and we ended up with a mess on our hands.
We are definitely getting closer but I have to decide if I want to go ahead and start it and let the school take most of the responsibility during the day, or just wait until this summer. In the mean time, I will begin to mentally prepare myself for this huge transition and milestone. My little girl is growing up so fast!

That's the way to go! We made much too big a deal out of it, and now the whole issue is out of hand at our house! I wish I would have been more laid back about it like you're being and made it HIS decision to start potty training. Good job!
