Nana

Josh's grandmother has been battling cancer for several years. She has been undergoing chemo treatments for a while now which has been helping with her Lymphoma. Her latest PET scan showed a new type of Lymphoma that is now along her spine and hip. There were a couple of different treatment options they had planned on trying. One was for her to be a part of a stem cell research study that had a great outcome, maybe even getting rid of the cancer all together. The other was a different type of chemo than what she has been on. With the chemo, they estimated it would give her a couple more years.

Well, over the last couple of weeks, while testing to determine her eligibility to be a part of the stem cell study, her health has deteriorated. She ended up catching a bacterial infection from a blood transfusion, her liver counts were high, and she was extremely weak from having low blood platelets. This week they determined that she just wasn't healthy enough to be a part of the research study and her only option was the chemo. It would be an intense few weeks of treatment and it was now estimated to extend her life by only 6-10 months at best.

After battling the last few weeks and the disappointing news about the stem cell study, Nana decided that she didn't want to go further with any treatments. And with no treatment, they estimated it would be a matter of days to weeks. She is very weak and tired and just wants to be at home for the remaining time she has. Nana is truly at peace with her decision as well as the rest of the family.

Please pray that the time she has left will be full of love and laughs and that she will not be in pain as she goes to be with the Lord.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Cancer is a terrible disease. It sounds as though she is at peace with her decision and I'm sure she feels very blessed to have her loved ones around her. I'll be praying for her and your family.
